1st-time buyer opts for South Loop
Three town-house models are open at Eastgate Village, a master-planned development at 26th Street and King Drive on the Near South Side.
Townhouses begin at $465,900. All three models feature a 2-car garage, a lower-level family room, an island kitchen, a second-level balcony, a rooftop deck and separate living and dining rooms.
The McCormick model is shown with an optional "rooftop room," which adds more space as well as allowing buyers to have two decks.
"The rooftop room is versatile, providing a bright space for a home office, a child's playroom or a second family room," said Terrie Whittaker, president of sales and marketing for New West Realty.
Altogether, 500 homes -- townhouses, duplexes and condominiums -- are planned at the site, just south of McCormick Place and just west of Lakeshore Drive. Base prices range from the mid-$100,00s to the upper-$500,000s. Sizes range from 527 square feet to 2,647 square feet.
"Recent Census figures show the Near South Side as one of the fastest-growing areas of Chicago, with a population increase of 8.7 percent from 2000 to 2005," Whittaker said.
