New buildings getting it Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright believed that a design drew its beauty from within, giving birth to the prairie style of architecture more than 100 years ago.
Wright's prairie style is enjoying a resurgence in popularity in every kinid of residentiala housing, including condominiums. While often associated with single-family homes and estates, Wright also designed a skyscraper, the Price TOwer Arts Center in Bartlesville, Okla. The center is the featured attraction in a Chicago Architecture Foundation exhibit running through April 29 in the city's John Buck Company Lecture Hall Gallery.
New West Realty uses elements of the praririe styles at Park Place Homes, a new gated master-planned community on a portion of the former site of the World's Finest Chocolate factory. Located at 51st Streeet and Lawndale Avenue, the community will have 211 homes, including single-family homes, townhouses and condominiums, priced from the low-$200,000s to the mid-$400,000s.
"We used this style to blend with the existing architecture of the neighborhood, which is Chicago bungalow and two-story prairie," said Ted Mazola, president of New West Realty. "It can be done in the same formand fenestration. The linees and overhangs as well as the material, are in the same style."
